Two offices on bikes, which is very unusual, appeared to have cautioned or at least talked to a geezer who according to a couple of restaurant owners I talked to later is some kind of community leader.

From what I saw he then looked like he was trying to wind up the Police, standing in front of them and blocking their exit. They looked like they wanted to get the fuck out of there.

A crowd gathered and the two officers got surrounded by a load of people. Some are trying to calm down the situation, some are taking advantage of the situation to stamp on, and in one incident run over the copper's bikes.

Next thing there are about 20 - 30 Police in the street and the situation eventually dissolves after a few minutes. Dunno what happened to the geezer they originally talked to.

That's what I saw and the impression I got. Obviously I could have misinterpreted the whole situation.

I have never seen Police on bikes in that street or in Brixton in general which I think is suspicious.

I can say one thing for definite. The two coppers seemed as usual with Policing in Brixton inexperienced and out of their depth. Why they don't have older more experienced Police officers working in what I imagine is a difficult area to Police and in an area which is historically linked to civil disturbances is incomprehensible to me. The current initiative is called 'no deal' which appears to allow the Police to stop anyone for anything.

When your more scarred of the Police than you are of the crack heads you know you're heading for problems.
